Who do you think should be the next Children's Laureate?
Children can enter our competition and adults have the chance to make a nomination
The next Children's Laureate will be chosen by a selection panel and will be appointed for a two-year term.
Michael Rosen is the current Children's Laureate. Previous Laureates were: Quentin Blake, Anne Fine, Michael Morpurgo and Jacqueline Wilson.
Children and adults can suggest any living British writer or illustrator of children's books - someone who you think has made a real contribution to the development of children's books.
Children
Children can win the chance to attend the announcement event of the next Children's Laureate.
Children under 14 are invited to enter our online competition: authors of the four best entries, one each from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, will be invited to the announcement event in London, with a parent or carer, on 9 June 2009.
Simply fill in the form below. You need to argue your case in up to 100 words. Entries that simply name someone will be disqualified from the competition. The winner will be the person under 14 who makes the best case for their choice - they do not need to choose the person who becomes the laureate.
Adults
Adults are invited to nominate their choice for the Children's Laureate using the form below but are not eligible for the competition.
Closing date: 31 January 2009.
A summary of the suggestions received will be sent to the selection panel, including the number of entries for each individual. The children who write the four suggestions we like best will be invited to the award ceremony in June 2009 and ten others whose comments we enjoy will be sent book prizes.
